Strawberry Ice

We have so much fruit in our house that it’s crazy. So throughout the week, we’re going to be making different dishes that include them. One of things I’ve already wanted to try to make was a fruit granita. Both Carlo and I grew up on Italian ices. They are so refreshing and delicious. So today, I made my own strawberry granita.

It’s a simple recipe, but it’s not quick. In fact, the freezing is done in two parts. Nevertheless, it’s worth the wait!

Here’s the recipe:


  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup Splenda baking blend (Can be replaced with 1 cup granulated Splenda or 1 cup granulated sugar)
  • 3 cups sliced strawberries
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Grated zest of 1/2 lemon


  1. In a sauce pan, add the Splenda to 1 cup of water to make a simple syrup
  2. Mix until the Splenda is dissolved
  3. In a blender, puree the strawberries with lemon juice
  4. When simple sugar is ready, pour into the blender and add lemon zest
  5. Blend together until smooth
  6. Pour mixture into a 9×13 baking pan and place in freezer
  7. Freeze for 2 hours
  8. Rake a fork over frozen mixture and place back in freezer for another 3 hours
  9. Rake fork over mixure again before serving
